Refrain :
Up from the grave he arose;
with a mighty triumph o’er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!
Low in the grave he lay, Jesus my Savior,
waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!
Vainly they watch his bed, Jesus my Savior,
vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord! [Refrain]
Death cannot keep its prey, Jesus my Savior;
he tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord! [Refrain]

Yoruba Liturgical Music is becoming more beautiful over the years and in 2017 due to the Forum of Liturgical Music(F.I.L.M) Held in Owerri there have emerged more beautiful and brilliant songs especially in the Parts of Mass namely:
Sanctus (Mimo) and
Agnus Dei (Odo Aguntan)
Below are the Top 3 Composed this year in and out of the competition in no particular Order. It is arranged by Composer
Emre & Victus
Now Ehimanre Asuelinmen and Victus Eze are two brilliant musicians from the University of Lagos, they are arguably the best composing collaborators of 2017 having 5 songs between them this year alone. Which Include;
1. Mimo
2. Odo Aguntan
3. Kaabo (With Banjo Adeboye)
Mimo and Odo Aguntan (Emre and Victus)
The Mimo was Composed in Majorly Afro beat pattern with a Solemn intro, It was first Performed by Unilag in the 2017 FILM
This Kind of Music can elevate any mass and put the congregation in high spirits, which is good for the Mass.
The Odo Aguntan was composed in the Traditional Ibadan Bata style in the minor mode which gives it a majestic grace coupled with unresolved picardi thirds which portray a tingling feeling of emptiness required to put you in the right mood for penitence.
This composer is arguably the most intriguing this year with beautiful songs which include;
1. Ikechukwu
2. Abu Umu Zayon
3. Nohuaren
4. Chekwube (With Dr. John Ezomo)
Mimo and Odo Aguntan (Charles Onwubuya)
The Mimo and Odo Aguntan Composed by Charles are mainly of Ibadan Bata Style with a feeling of modern Yoruba Contemporary music. Best sung in Local Yoruba Loose Lipped style of singing to give it more flavour.
A young and largely unknown composer, with a couple of beautiful songs this year. Which Include;
Keresimesi Ti De ( With Banjo Adeboye)
Ruhumai Eucharisti
Haleluya (Him don bless me)
He has an Adept Usage in counterpoint movement and techniques coupled with his ability to use choral harmony to bring out the best of the melodic lines which are sometimes called “Melodious Harmonies”.
Mimo and Odo Aguntan (Obioha Ogbonna)
The Mimo is purely afro beat style with a little feeling of Sunny Ade, the ostinato under the solo line is another attest to his understanding of Counterpoints and it takes the meaning of Sanctus to a whole other level.
This is a Hausa song Titled Ruhumai Eucharisti. It is a Eucharistic Anthem which means Eucharistic Spirit
Its Chords and Movement is derived from Modern Hausa Popular Music.
It was written while i was in the NYSC Orientation camp
It is dedicated to a friend who died during that time in which the Holy Eucharist gave me the strength to overcome the sadness which inspired the lyrics of the song.
It ends with a descant duet which crowns the song with a soulful beauty.
This is one of the best Igbo Liturgical songs you may ever hear in your life it was composed by one of the most creative Nigerian Composers of the 21st Century Charles Onwubuya
This is a decription of the song from the composer himself.
Abu Umu Zayon
_A Psalmody of the children of Zion_
A piece of exuberant praise singing with a boisterous rhythmic accompaniment. This piece exemplifies the intensity of prayer and praise sessions on mountains, crusade grounds or whatever venue where there’s a fellowship of vibrant and charismatic Christians, bourne out of the excitement of answered prayers or the anguish of long-lasting suffering or simply praising God in spirit and truth in communion with the Heavenly hosts.
This piece sort to bring us back home as Africans and particularly Nigerians by personalising or as the case may be nationalizing the subject- Zion as Nigeria in a bid to keep the light of prayer burning for our dear country in these perilous times.
Sing we all with a heart of love and the heavens will harken to us.
Onwubuya Ikechukwu Charles.
